Summary
A government advisory report recommended that Japan accelerate digital border controls and strengthen residency management following record foreign arrivals. It urged wider use of digital technology, evidence-based policymaking, and closer coordination with airlines and foreign governments to balance stricter controls with smoother entry procedures. Justice Minister Hiroshi Hiraguchi plans to incorporate the recommendations into a new basic immigration policy to be compiled around March 2026.
