A person who is the spouse of a Japanese national, a special adopted child, or a child born to a Japanese national.
Applicable examples include a Japanese husband or wife, a biological child, and a special adopted child.

Period of Stay

5 years, 3 years, 1 year or 6 months

Documents to be submitted
  • P0001:Photo 1 leaf Reference(Prepared by Applicant)
    • Please submit in jpg format (maximum size: 50Kb).
    • If the applicant is under 16 years of age, this document will NOT be required.
  • If the foreign national (applicant) is a Japanese spouse (husband or wife)
  • P0589:1 copy of the family register (certificate of all matters) of the spouse (Japanese) *This must include the fact of marriage with the applicant. If there is no mention of the fact of marriage, it is necessary to submit a marriage registration acceptance certificate in addition to a copy of the family register.(Prepared by Applicant)
    • P0590:One marriage certificate issued by an institution in the applicant's country of nationality (foreign country) *If the applicant has Korean nationality etc. and a family register is issued, a foreign institution in which the marriage of the two people is recorded. You can also submit a certified copy of your family register.(Prepared by Applicant)
      • P0591:(1) One copy each of the residence tax taxation (or tax exemption) certificate and tax payment certificate for the most recent year of the person who will pay the applicant's stay expenses (one copy stating the gross income and tax payment status for the past year)
        * As long as the certificate shows both the annual gross income and tax payment status (whether or not taxes have been paid), either one is acceptable.(Prepared by Applicant)
        • Please submit this document as proof of the cost of your stay in Japan.
      • P0592:(2) Other
        * If you are unable to prove your stay expenses using the documents in (1) because you have just arrived in Japan or have moved, please submit the following documents.
        a Copy of savings passbook as appropriate
        * A copy of the screen of the web passbook (transaction history can be seen) is acceptable, however, it must be printed in a state that cannot be modified (Excel files etc. are not acceptable) .(Prepared by Applicant)
        • P0593:1 letter of guarantee for your spouse (Japanese) *The guarantor must be your spouse (Japanese) residing in Japan. Reference(Prepared by Applicant)
          • P0594:1 copy of the residence card with all members of the spouse's (Japanese) household listed
            * Personal number (My Number) omitted, but other matters not omitted.(Prepared by Applicant)

                • P0601:Certificate of recognition of the applicant issued by the institution of the country of birth (only if there is a certificate of recognition)(Prepared by Applicant)

                • P0602:Special adoption notification acceptance certificate(Prepared by Applicant)

                  • In case of special adoption, this document will be required.
                • P0603:Copy of judgment and finalization certificate regarding adoption issued by Japanese family court(Prepared by Applicant)
                  • Please submit either this document or P0602.
