Summary
Japan will start issuing six-month visas for digital nomads with an annual income of ¥10 million ($68,300) or more, with the program expected to launch by the end of March, according to the Immigration Services Agency (ISA). This “specified activities” visa will allow digital nomads — remote workers staying in a location short- to mid-term — from 49 eligible countries and territories to stay in Japan. Self-employed applicants also qualify. Eligibility is limited to countries with which Japan has both tax treaties and short-term visa exemption agreements, such as the U.S., Australia, and Singapore.
