Japan plans speedier pre-arrival immigration system

Japan is introducing a new digital travel authorization system called JESTA to streamline immigration procedures amid record-high tourism. Starting soon, travelers from 71 visa-exempt countries (including the US, UK, South Korea, Australia, and most of Europe) will be required to submit travel and personal information online several days before arrival. This move aims to enhance convenience and security using digital technology, as Japan targets 60 million inbound tourists by 2030.
