Summary
In Germany, workers with an immigration background make up a significant portion of the workforce in sectors facing labor shortages, such as construction, food production, transport, catering, accommodation, and maintenance. For example, 67% of workers in construction, 51% in food production, and 46% of bus and tram drivers have an immigration background.

Overall, 26% of employees in sectors with labor shortages in Germany have immigrated themselves or have parents who immigrated since 1950. Key sectors with high representation of immigrants include meat processing (42%), food sales (41%), freight drivers (37%), elderly care (31%), and metal construction (30%).

On the other hand, immigration-background workers are underrepresented in areas like insurance sales (13%), police (6%), public administration (9%), education (10%), and business administration (12%).

However, sectors such as postal and courier services, as well as accommodation and catering, have a notably higher proportion of immigrant workers.
