Summary
Australia is undergoing significant changes to its migration policies, set to be fully implemented by 2025, focusing on aligning immigration with national priorities like economic growth, social cohesion, and regional development. These changes have important implications for Indian nationals considering work, study, or permanent residency in Australia.

The 2024–2025 migration plan allocates 70% of the 185,000 permanent residency spots to skilled migration, with an emphasis on addressing skill shortages. Employer-sponsored visas and regional visas have been expanded, offering more opportunities for Indian professionals to gain permanent residency.

A key development is the introduction of the National Innovation Visa, replacing the Global Talent Visa, aimed at attracting talent in sectors like technology, engineering, and research. This presents a significant opportunity for Indian STEM professionals.

Additionally, the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-Professionals Scheme, starting in November 2024, will allow 3,000 Indian graduates annually to live and work in Australia for up to two years.

However, changes to student migration policies include a cap on international student intake at 270,000 and stricter English proficiency requirements. Indian students will need to meet these higher standards to secure a spot.

Other reforms include reducing work experience requirements for the Temporary Skill Shortage visa, making it easier for skilled workers to migrate.

These changes underscore the importance of preparation for Indian migrants, highlighting the need for enhanced skills, improved language proficiency, and strategic planning to take advantage of new opportunities.
