Summary
The proposed changes laid before Parliament on January 16 will increase the fees for various immigration and nationality services, including:

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) fee rising to £16
Certificate of sponsorship fee rising to £525
Naturalisation as a British citizen rising to £1,605
Naturalisation as a British overseas territories citizen rising to £1,070
These changes are expected to generate an additional £269 million annually. The introduction of ETAs aims to create a quicker, more secure digital immigration system, similar to systems in the USA and Australia.

Following feedback from the aviation industry, a temporary exemption will be given to passengers transiting airside without passing through UK border control, affecting only Heathrow and Manchester airports. This exemption will be kept under review.

The legislation will be debated in Parliament and, if approved, will amend the Immigration and Nationality (Fees) Regulations 2018.
