Summary
The figures provide an overview of recent UK migration trends. Net migration between July 2024 and June 2025 stood at 204,000, representing a 69% decrease compared with the previous 12 months. This sharp decline reflects both a fall in arrivals and a rise in departures.

Total immigration during this period was 898,000, down 31% year on year, while emigration reached 693,000, an increase of 7%. As a result, the net population increase from migration was significantly reduced.

At the same time, asylum applications rose to 110,051 between October 2024 and September 2025, up 13% from the previous year. Small boat arrivals reached 40,652 between 1 January and 17 December 2025, an increase of 16% compared with the same period in 2024. Returns and deportations also increased, totaling 36,457 over the year to September 2025, up 11%.

Overall, the data show a sharp contraction in net migration driven by lower legal immigration and higher emigration, alongside continued increases in asylum claims, irregular arrivals by small boats, and enforcement activity.
