Summary
The UK government has announced immigration policy updates that will take effect on 8 April 2026 and 26 March 2027.

From April 2026, compliance requirements for employers sponsoring workers under the Skilled Worker visa will be strengthened. Employers must ensure that employees receive the salary stated on their Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) in each pay period. For monthly-paid workers, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) will check whether the total salary paid over any three-month period equals at least one quarter of the annual salary stated in the CoS. Failure to comply may lead to enforcement action.

From March 2027, the English language requirement for settlement applications will increase. Skilled Workers and applicants in several other visa categories will need to demonstrate B2-level English proficiency in speaking and listening. Those who originally qualified with a B1-level test may need to take a new approved B2 test before applying for settlement.

The UK is also expanding digital immigration systems. Since February 2026, many visas are issued as digital eVisas instead of paper visa stickers, requiring visa holders to create a UKVI account to access and share their status. In addition, the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system will be fully implemented, requiring most visitors to obtain travel authorization before entering the UK unless they hold a visa or residence status. These changes aim to strengthen compliance, raise language standards, and advance the digitalisation of the UK’s immigration system.
