Summary
The UK will allow sponsored migrant workers formally recognized as victims of modern slavery to work for any employer for the remainder of their visas. Previously, Skilled Worker visa holders risked losing their immigration status if they left an abusive sponsoring employer.
The reform aims to protect care workers, chefs and hospitality staff from exploitation such as underpayment, excessive hours, threats and passport confiscation. More than 6,600 employers have lost sponsorship licences since Labour took power, while the government is also seeking to make it easier for sponsored workers to change employers.
