Japan’s Immigration Agency Eases Entertainment Visa Rules; Application Process Streamlined, Maximum Stay Increased

Summary: The Japanese government has eased conditions for foreign professional singers and entertainers to obtain visas for performances in Japan, such as concerts and music festivals. In December 2023, it introduced measures to speed up the issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility (necessary for a visa) by reducing processing time from one to three months to just two to three weeks for eligible applicants. These changes are part of broader efforts to promote cultural exchange and stimulate the economy.

Additionally, the Immigration Services Agency has simplified application procedures by removing certain document requirements, like venue maps and photos. This follows previous visa relaxations in August 2023, which included extending the maximum stay for entertainers from 15 to 30 days.

The new measures aim to make it easier for foreign artists to plan events in Japan by improving the visa application process and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
