Visa holders should switch to an eVisa now

Summary
The UK government is transitioning to a digital immigration system by replacing physical documents with eVisas, offering greater security, efficiency, and convenience. With less than a month until many biometric residence permits (BRPs) and cards (BRCs) expire on December 31, 2024, over 3.1 million people have already switched to eVisas.
Airlines and carriers will temporarily accept expired BRPs and EU Settlement Scheme BRCs as travel evidence until March 31, 2025, though passengers must still undergo immigration checks. The government is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and has improved support for those still using physical documents, including streamlining processes and expanding support services.
Those yet to switch to eVisas are encouraged to do so by the end of the year to take advantage of the benefits, such as enhanced security and convenience. People with indefinite leave to remain who use stamps or vignettes are also encouraged to apply for an eVisa to enjoy these benefits. The switch is free, easy, and won't affect current rights or immigration status.
