Summary
Japan will introduce mandatory tuberculosis (TB) screening for certain visa applicants planning to stay for a medium to long term. The requirement will first apply to nationals of Nepal, the Philippines, and Vietnam, with China, Indonesia, and Myanmar to be included later. However, exemptions will be made for reentry permit holders, digital nomads, specified skilled workers, EPA nurses and care workers, government-funded exchange program participants such as JET and JICA trainees, and certain foreign students. The TB screening requirement is set to begin on March 24 for nationals of Nepal and the Philippines, while Vietnamese nationals will be subject to testing starting May 26. The implementation date for China, Indonesia, and Myanmar has not yet been determined. Further details on obtaining the TB certificate will be provided in due course.
