Summary
The UK Home Office has extended the deadline for using expired Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) as evidence of immigration status when traveling in and out of the UK. The new deadline is set for June 1, 2025, with the possibility of further extensions.
Originally, BRPs were to be replaced by digital UKVI accounts and eVisas as part of the move toward a digital immigration system. The transition was initially planned for January 2025 but has been extended to March 2025 to ease the process and minimize border issues.
The Home Office estimates that around 600,000 people have not yet set up their UKVI accounts or obtained eVisas, leading to the extension of the BRP deadline to allow more time for people to adapt to the new digital system.
