Summary
On February 27, 2025, Canada announced that Ukrainians and their family members who arrived under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) before March 31, 2024, will now have until March 31, 2026, to apply for a new open work permit (valid for up to three years), renew an existing work permit, or apply for a new study permit. Those wishing to renew their visitor or student status can continue applying as before.

These temporary measures aim to allow Ukrainians and their families to continue working and studying in Canada during the ongoing conflict and to return home when it is safe. Additionally, free settlement services are available for all Ukrainian temporary residents and their families until March 31, 2025.

Canada is continuing to assess how its immigration programs can best support those affected by the war in Ukraine.
