Summary
Online scammers in Malaysia are targeting Indonesians seeking immigration documents by using AI-manipulated videos and fake WhatsApp accounts impersonating border control officers. The fraudulent TikTok clips feature uniformed men urging viewers to contact “Anton Helistiawan,” a former Indonesian immigration attaché, for passport and visa services.

The videos display clear signs of AI manipulation, such as unnatural blinking and distorted audio. Victims are asked to submit personal details and pay inflated fees of 700–900 ringgit, far higher than the official passport fee of up to 100 ringgit.

The Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur confirmed no officer named Anton currently works there, stressing that immigration services are only processed via official online appointments—not through WhatsApp or third parties. AFP has previously debunked similar scams involving fake licenses, certificates, and deepfake videos of officials.
