Summary
Germany is facing a growing labor shortage and is developing new initiatives to attract and retain foreign skilled workers. Projects such as partnerships with countries like Vietnam aim to train workers locally, with some later employed in Germany, creating a “win-win” model. The government also promotes fair recruitment through the WE-Fair alliance, emphasizing transparent rules and shared responsibilities.

However, significant challenges remain. Companies often underestimate the time needed for language acquisition and cultural integration. Bureaucratic delays in immigration procedures can take years, and even “fast-track” systems frequently fail to deliver quicker results.

Retention is an even bigger issue. In 2024, more people left Germany than arrived, as many foreign workers became disillusioned with working conditions, social attitudes, and policy inconsistencies, such as deportation risks despite employment.

Ultimately, Germany’s success depends not only on attracting talent but also on improving institutional efficiency and fostering a more welcoming social and political environment for immigrants.
