In Canada, new regulations for the International Student Program took effect on November 15, 2024. International students can now work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during class sessions and full-time during breaks. Students must also apply for and receive approval for a new study permit before changing institutions. Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) are required to report student enrollment status twice a year, with penalties for non-compliance, including suspension from admitting new international students.

In Finland, from November 21, 2024, EU, Swiss, and Liechtenstein citizens applying for residence registration based on work or studies may receive automated decisions if they meet specific requirements. Applicants must still visit a service point to verify their identity before approval.

In New Zealand, changes effective November 20, 2024, simplify requirements for employers recruiting Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) holders. Employers no longer need to provide evidence of completing training modules during accreditation renewals. Additionally, the cap on Fishing Crew Work Visas will be removed from December 2, 2024, allowing more foreign workers to address labor shortages in the seafood industry.

In Panama, the deadline to apply for extensions of expired residence permits has been extended to December 31, 2024. Permits that expired after March 13, 2020, can now be renewed within this extended period.

In Spain, the Congress approved legislation on November 14, 2024, to abolish the Golden Visa program, which grants residence permits based on investment. Applications submitted before the changes take effect will still be processed, and existing visas remain valid. This measure aims to address Spain’s housing crisis by curbing investment-driven property purchases.
